The challenge
A large professional services organisation needed to modernise its outdated security system throughout its 22 office locations across the UK. With multiple sites involved and uninterrupted service essential, the project demanded careful planning and execution. The challenge was to upgrade an aging proprietary security system that could only be modified and maintained by a previous supplier.
In addition, the customer wanted to enhance access credentials for greater security, including a transition from physical access cards to mobile credentials. However, no off-the-shelf mobile credential application fully met their requirements.
The replacement security system was to be installed into the customer’s Azure cloud environment and managed by their corporate IT team. The chosen system also had to achieve all of the key security functions, audit functions and integrations that were already in place, while also being well supported and adaptable for future development.
Replacing an electronic security system across such a large estate is a major exercise with many risks to manage, so the solution would need to be robust, flexible, scalable and proven to provide a long-term solution.
Project requirements
Modernising with LMG
LMG were selected to undertake the migration as they were able to demonstrate a wealth of experience in deploying technology into a corporate IT environment, not just security systems, but the IT networks that they sit on and the systems they interact with. The customer didn’t just want a security specialist, they also needed a technology company.
In addition, LMG realises and fully understands how to maximise the value of the occupancy data produced by the security systems in the wider context of the built environment, something that the customer is very focused on gaining benefit from.
Project Highlights
The Solutions
Tyco’s C•CURE 9000 access control system and VideoEdge CCTV with Victor Video Management were implemented to deliver a unified security platform.
Tyco offers a robust, proven range of access control and CCTV products with strong cybersecurity credentials. By using a single-manufacturer system, all components were designed to work together from the outset, ensuring seamless interoperability even as system software evolves. Updates are tested for platform compatibility, and device firmware is tightly version-controlled. With the platform managed in the customer’s Azure environment, this approach supported smooth upgrades, integrations, and maintenance.
The system also had to function across national and international sites and integrate with key third-party systems including mobile credential management, physical key tracking, and intruder alarms, all of which were met by the chosen solution.
Data output was another priority. The security system needed to share information with business-critical applications and support tailored analytics. To meet this need, the extended reporting suite (C•CURE 9000 BIRS) was deployed, offering advanced insights into compliance, risk, and occupancy, making the system a vital operational tool. Migration across the estate was managed by an experienced delivery team. With access control transitions potentially disruptive, a detailed plan was implemented to ensure staff experienced no service interruptions and system managers could maintain business-as-usual functions.
Design Automator®, a proprietary software tool, was used to oversee both the migration and post-deployment phases. This automated the engineering process and ensured 100% accuracy in device records and system implementation.
Mobile credentialing is now being introduced to replace physical access cards. Using HID’s secure Origo portal, integrated with C•CURE 9000, the solution includes a customer-branded wrapper app to align credential management with internal standards.
The outcome is a modern, cloud-based access control system that supports mobile credentials, integrates with business-critical tools, and delivers consistent performance across all sites. Key decisions around system selection, cloud integration, and data use helped ensure the solution was both scalable and practical and meets both current needs and long-term strategic goals. Delivered with support from LMG, the project highlights how legacy infrastructure can be effectively modernised to meet evolving operational and security needs.
