Simon Property Group Founder and Chairman Passes Away, Son Eli Simon Appointed as CEO

Shared 27 March, 2026

David Simon, Chairman of the Board, CEO and President of retail real estate juggernaut Simon Property Group, has passed away at the age of 64 after battling cancer. His son, Eli Simon, will take over as CEO and President, in accordance with the company’s succession plan. Eli Simon will also continue in his current roles of COO and Board Director.

In addition to his roles as chief operating officer and director, Larry Glasscock was named non-executive chairman. The company emphasised that long-standing succession planning and a deep executive bench will allow operations to continue without interruption, aiming to preserve David Simon’s legacy and reassure shareholders, partners, tenants, employees and lenders about the stability of its strategy and assets.
