Bao Living, the Belgian pioneer in modular, sustainable construction solutions, has successfully raised €1.5 million in a new funding round. The investment comes from two prominent players in the construction sector: the investment fund Entrevest and the globally recognized contractor BESIX Group.
With the capital injection, Bao Living takes the next step in its ambition to revolutionize the construction industry. Founded in 2018, the company developed SAM, a patented modular furniture system that integrates all the necessary elements for kitchens, bathrooms, and bedrooms, including electricity, water supply, ventilation, and heating. SAM is not only functional and aesthetically pleasing but also fully circular, meaning it can be completely disassembled and reused after its use.
A Response to the Climate Crisis
The construction sector is one of the largest polluters worldwide. Bao Living aims to actively contribute to solving this problem by significantly reducing the carbon footprint of new constructions and renovations.
Benjamin Eysermans, CEO and co-founder of Bao Living, stated: “SAM not only saves space and is price-competitive, but also addresses the urgent need for more sustainable construction. This investment confirms our approach and ensures that we can further develop our technology and accelerate our market impact.”
The Future of Construction
With the new funding, Bao Living can realize several ambitious projects. This includes investing in the development of configuration software that allows architects and contractors to calculate prices in real-time and determine the optimal layout of the SAM modules.
Additionally, Bao Living is expanding its circular model, enabling customers to receive part of the purchase price back after using the modules.
To increase transparency, Bao Living will introduce a digital materials passport in line with European regulations on sustainable construction, providing detailed information on the composition and carbon footprint of each module.
Finally, Bao Living will accelerate its growth in the Netherlands and further strengthen its market position.
Collaboration with the Construction Industry
The largest investor, Entrevest, is enthusiastic about the collaboration.
Niels Diepvens, General Manager of Entrevest, said: “Bao Living perfectly fits our investment strategy focused on innovative and sustainable companies. We are convinced that Bao Living will play a key role in the transition to a circular construction economy.”
The investment from BESIX Group highlights the growing importance of sustainable building solutions in the sector.
Thomas Vandenbergh, General Manager of BESIX Technology, part of BESIX Group, stated: “We are excited about our participation in Bao Living. We believe that this will enable Bao Living to unlock significant growth opportunities through both geographic diversification and digitalization. Together, we are ready to take the lead in transforming the future of the construction industry, while improving our ecological impact on existing and new buildings.”
