Since January 2024, Michael Winterson is the current Secretary General of the European Data Centre Association (EUDCA). He held the role of President from 2021-2023, and Chair of the Policy Committee 2016-2021. In this current role, Michael is coordinating the running of the association for the board and its various committees. Working with other members, he is raising awareness of the importance of datacentres as digital infrastructure and a core element of a growing digital economy in Europe. The EUDCA is taking this message directly to the European Commission and other international bodies and indirectly to national governments via our network of national trade associations. Michael has over 30 years experience in the European technology industry. He was involved in starting up three technology companies. In 2000, one of those was datacentre operator IXEurope which was later acquired by Equinix. He held a variety of commercial roles within Equinix and, after 24 years of work in datacentre companies, made the move to focus his time on advocacy and regulation of the digital economy. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and French from Northwestern University and a Master’s Degree in International Economics from The Graduate Institute, Geneva (IHEID). Michael is an American who has lived in Europe for over 40 years.
