Aticco is getting stronger. The Barcelona-based company, which was born as a workspace management firm, has closed a funding round of €10 million with the participation of various family offices, as well as GCO Activos Inmobiliarios, belonging to the Catalana Occidente Group (GCO).
With this capital injection, the company aims to continue its strategic expansion in different cities of the Iberian Peninsula and to become one of the main players in the sector in Southern Europe.
The new investors will acquire a minority stake in Aticco, so the founders Gabriel Espín (CEO), Franz Palleres (Security Director), and Juan Carlos Morales (CFO), will continue to have majority stakeholding of the company.
Currently, the company has ten coworking spaces, including Aticco Cathedral located on Via Laietana and the Barcelona Finance Hub on Passeig de Gràcia, which will open their doors during 2024, as well as other new centers that will open during 2024 and 2025.
“We are going to take full advantage of this opportunity to continue advancing and to compete head-to-head with the main international players in the coworking sector with a totally differentiated value and quality proposition,” assured the CEO and founder of the company, Gabriel Espín.
Founded in 2016, the company was born as a coworking company, and in 2020 made the leap by expanding its offering to coliving and creating a platform to boost entrepreneurship, Aticco Lab. That same year, the company landed in Madrid with its first coworking center. Later, in 2022, it also incorporated the Aticco Ventures business angels community.
Aticco has had advisory in mergers and acquisitions (M&A) from Maarten de Jongh, of the consultancy Norgestión, and legal support from Diego Callejón, of the firm Muzelle Lawyers, thus guaranteeing a successful transaction.
In recent years, coworking spaces in Spain have increased their area by almost 36%, going from 615,000 square meters in 2020, to 836,000 square meters at the end of 2022, as explained by Manuel Zea in the report of the last edition of the Coworking Spain Conference and collected by the company in a statement.
