Visibuilt, a Danish biotechnology company developing biobased alternatives to conventional carbon-intensive construction binders, has secured EUR 3.34 million in seed funding co-led by EIFO and Unconventional Ventures followed by Proptechfonden and backed again by earlier investor EMDFonden Investering i grønne hjerner.
The investment will support the next stage of the company’s development as it moves from laboratory-scale pilots towards validating the biobased binder platform in the market and larger-scale tests of production design with industry partners. The binder technology, visiBINDER, is a mycelium-based binder designed for paving and infrastructure applications.
Line Kloster Pedersen, CEO and Founder of Visibuilt, said, “Closing this seed round is an important milestone for Visibuilt. It enables us to mature our technical platform, validate our solution at a larger scale, and take the next steps towards the market.”
Construction and infrastructure rely heavily on binders such as bitumen and cement, both associated with significant carbon emissions. Visibuilt is developing visiBINDER, a biobased binder produced from mycelium, the root structure of fungi. The technology is designed to offer a less energy intensive solution for paving materials while meeting the durability and performance requirements of outdoor applications.
