The real estate market in Saudi Arabia faces several sustainability challenges, including energy consumption, water usage, and waste management. These challenges are compounded by the country’s hot and dry climate, which places significant demands on energy and water resources.

The underlying problem to solve, is to develop innovative solutions that reduce the environmental impact of the real estate sector while improving the quality of life for residents and tenants. This includes reducing energy consumption, promoting renewable energy sources, reducing water usage, improving waste management, and enhancing indoor air quality.

This sustainability innovation challenge in the real estate market in Saudi Arabia involves encouraging the development of sustainable building materials, technologies, and practices.

For example, in this challenge we are looking for:

  • Net-zero energy buildings: Design and construct a net-zero energy building that produces as much energy as it consumes, using renewable energy sources such as solar or wind power.
  • Water conservation: Develop innovative water conservation technologies, such as water-efficient plumbing fixtures, rainwater harvesting systems, and greywater recycling systems, which can reduce water usage in buildings.
  • Waste management: Improve waste management practices in the real estate sector, such as developing innovative recycling and composting systems, promoting sustainable procurement practices, and reducing the use of single-use plastics.

Overall, this sustainability innovation challenge in Saudi Arabia is aimed to foster creativity and collaboration among stakeholders in the real estate sector to work together with innovative solutions that reduce the environmental impact of buildings while improving the quality of life for residents and tenants.
