Sage, which provides accounting, finance and payroll software, has acquired Paperless Environments, a company that automates accounts payable for the construction industry. The deal was announced on 1 October, and the terms were not disclosed.
Paperless is based in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and has more than 1,400 customers across the US, Canada and Australia. Sage customers can already use its technology through the Sage Paperless Construction platform. Paperless’s tools let users capture and file documents from their phone, wherever they are, and then index, store and securely share those documents with different users.
Sage says the acquisition is part of its wider investment in AI and automation, and that it will strengthen its construction offering by connecting finance, project and jobsite teams. Demand for this kind of technology is growing: a recent survey by Sage and the Associated General Contractors of America found that 61% of US construction firms now use AI.
“Contractors should not have to piece together critical information from across their finance, project and field teams,” said Dan Miller, Executive Vice President of Financials and ERP at Sage. He added that the Paperless team will help reduce the manual work involved in managing invoices, project records and compliance documents across offices and jobsites.
The deal adds to a strong run of M&A in construction tech. Activity surged in 2025 and has kept pace this year, with larger players buying specialist firms to extend their capabilities. Procore’s $845m cash acquisition of DroneDeploy is one example.
