Deutsche Sanierungsberatung (dsb), a Berlin-based startup helping to make residential homes climate-neutral, has closed a Series A round of over €10 million. The round was led by Simon Capital and VERBUND X Ventures, with existing investors IBB Ventures, Vireo Ventures, and Atlantic Food Labs participating.
Referencing Germany’s Federal Environment Agency, the company states that building operations are responsible for roughly 30% of the country’s CO2 emissions, about 112 million tons per year, driven mainly by heating with fossil gas and oil. It further notes that residential buildings are therefore one of the biggest levers for the energy transition, yet the renovation journey remains challenging for many homeowners.
dsb claims to address this by combining independent energy consulting and subsidy services with a network of vetted skilled trades businesses on a digital platform. Homeowners need just one point of contact for their entire renovation.
Sebastian Schmidt, CEO and co-founder of dsb, said, “Europe’s competitiveness and climate goals are also decided at home: every geopolitical crisis sends energy costs soaring, and homeowners bear the consequences. The solution is independent, sustainable energy supply. That’s why we founded dsb.”
Niclas Kern, CFO and co-founder of dsb, stated, “Right now, capital is flowing mainly into AI, and GreenTech is getting less attention. Our round shows that strong growth and a working business model can still win over investors, even outside the hype.”
Adam Khenissi, CCO and co-founder of dsb, said, “Two years ago, we were still sitting in a living room researching insulation materials. Today, we’ve helped more than 10,000 families with their renovations. Around 80% of Germany’s 15 million single-family homes are still not energy-efficient. We’re only at the beginning of this journey.”
The company plans to use this capital to continue expanding its platform and its network of 300 local skilled trades businesses. Alongside the launch of a proprietary electricity tariff, the company also intends to enter the B2B market.
