Josh Panknin is the Director of Real Estate AI Research & Innovation at Columbia University. He spent over a decade in real estate research, consulting, finance, and CMBS trading at Deutsche Bank. In these roles, he developed a comprehensive background in complex real estate transactions and investment decision-making processes. In 2018, he joined Columbia University’s school of engineering where he has been working with teams to develop AI, machine learning, and deep learning applications for major financial institutions, consulting firms, and real estate investment firms, both domestically and internationally. Josh has also taught “AI in Real Estate” classes at New York University and Columbia University, leading Columbia’s highly popular “AI in Real Estate” executive education course with over 400 real estate and technology professionals as course alumni. In these roles, Josh has developed an ability to take his real estate experience and convey technical concepts effectively to non-technical real estate professionals at all levels. He is also the CEO and founder of Parallax Advisors, an advisory and consulting firms working with companies to increase the efficacy and efficiency of internal AI projects. Josh has a master’s degree in finance from SDSU, a master’s degree in real estate from NYU, and is now pursuing a degree in applied mathematics.
